E-Mail Scam Health, Safety Spot Shecks and Inspections During COVID-19

Unfortunately during the COVID-19 pandemic, instances of cyber crime and scams have been increasing, as well as finding new ways to target small business owners.

One of the latest scams relates to COVID-19 spot checks.  We understand that a scam email is sent alleging to be from the Health and Safety Executive asking you to click on a link to ‘find the required guidance documents.

Officers that visit premises will be carrying identification from their business and a letter of authorisation from HSE. If you wish to verify an officer that calls or visits your organisation, please call 0300 790 6896.

When an HSE inspector calls:

•  Whilst HSE inspectors have the authority to enter your workplace, they must still follow the government’s code of practice on entering businesses.

•  In all cases local access and security procedures must be properly followed.

•  The HSE can be contacted on 0300 790 6896 if you wish to verify an officer that calls or visits your organisation is legitimate.
